Quartus in the Classroom

Quartus Chamber Players aims to share chamber music with diverse ensembles by presenting compelling musical programming in intimate concert environments. We work to produce engaging and enlightening performances that inspire communities. As a group, we are unified in our respect for the role of educational outreach in our artistic work. Quartus in the Classroom was created to provide in-school performances designed to inspire, challenge, and edify young students as they begin to explore classical music.

Quartus Chamber Players exists to bring high standard-performances outside the concert hall, giving underexposed audiences unique opportunities to experience chamber music. In addition, Quartus believes that bringing chamber music to the classroom is an important step in cultivating future generations of artists and audiences.

Quartus Chamber Players at Smith Middle School

Currently Quartus Chamber Players is on the Young Audiences of Houston (YAH) roster presenting two distinct educational programs highlighting some of the most exciting aspects of chamber music and its role in the world of the arts. We also offer a third program that is sponsored by Aperio, Music of the Americas.

Meet the String Family!

Throughout the presentation each instrument is featured, helping students discover how each of the instruments are alike and characteristics that make them different. This presentation provides opportunities for the students to interact with the quartet and participate in the music making process. This is a perfect presentation for all ages and levels. From beginning music students to a group that has never been exposed to music, this classroom presentation will leave the students excited about the possibilities of music!

Quartus Chamber Players believes that bringing chamber music to the classroom is an important step in cultivating future generations of artists and audiences. Our masterclass will provide the students with an in-school performance setting designed to inspire, challenge, and edify as they begin to explore classical chamber music. In addition to musicianship, this masterclass will highlight other skills needed in music making, including: teamwork, cooperation, encouragement, courage, attitude, organization, critical thinking, social skills and creativity. Quartus will begin the program with a 10-minute performance followed by a 50-minute masterclass. Up to four chamber music groups can be accommodated during the masterclass portion. Testimonials

“Quartus Chamber Players perform with an amazing energy that immediately captures interest and attention among all audience members. My students and I always eagerly anticipate their performances. They are extremely personable and relate well with young string musicians. Their educational outreach concerts continue to inspire my students to excel in music at all levels.”

- Karel Butz

Director of Orchestras, Smith Middle School

"My students came in to rehearsals today very focused and inspired, and even now, more than an hour and a half after school ended on a Friday, there are still ensembles hard at work in the room. They are really trying to apply the techniques you talked about, especially cuing and articulation. Thank you for coming!"

- Elizabeth Ledford

Cypress-Ranch High School Orchestra Director

“The Houston Area Suzuki Strings Association so appreciated Quartus Chamber Players performing at their Chamber Music Workshop on March 26th. Quartus’ music was so beautiful, and their discussion of chamber music was really educational both for the students and their parents. The performance was enriching and inspiring!”

- Julie Richards

HASSA Workshop Coordinator

“My students and parents LOVED your performance! Your quartet brought tears of joy to many of the adults who had never experienced seeing and hearing such beautiful music! Your presentation was excellent and so age appropriate for my students. You were the first string quartet that my students and parents have ever experienced and I know they will remember your performance for a long time. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE!”
